E46 M3 CSL EcuTool
Bring CSL shift logic and rev-matching behavior to your E46 M3.
The E46 M3 CSL uses more aggressive shift and rev-matching logic than the standard E46 M3. The EcuTool gives US-spec E46 M3 owners a self-service way to apply the relevant CSL DME parameters and, if desired, flash the CSL SMG II transmission software as well.
The CSL DME contains shift-logic maps that differ from the standard M3. The update ports the maps that affect shift recognition, engine-speed regulation timing, torque ramp-up, and rev-matching behavior.
- Up-shift recognition behavior
- Engine-speed regulation timing
- Torque ramp-up behavior
- More responsive shifting and smoother CSL-style rev matching
- Does not change fuel, air, or engine-combustion timing maps
Flashing the CSL transmission software complements the DME parameter update by smoothing and refining the transmission-side shift characteristics.
- Refines overall shift behavior
- Works together with the CSL DME parameters for a more polished result
- Allows use of 4500 RPM launch control
- Can also be flashed independently from the DME parameter update
CSL Shift Calibration
The CSL calibration uses different shift-related values than the standard M3, which is the basis for the DME parameter update.
SMG II Transmission
The CSL transmission software and the DME parameter update can be used separately, but they are designed to complement one another.
Either update can be used on its own. Based on SFBMWcoding’s testing and subjective assessment, the DME tuning parameters account for most of the noticeable improvement, while the CSL SMG transmission software adds the remaining refinement. Used together, the shift events become smoother and more polished.
Subjective share of the noticeable improvement attributed to the CSL DME tuning parameters.
Subjective share attributed to the transmission-software update and its additional refinement.
Expect more aggressive shifting in the higher Drivelogic programs.
After the CSL software update, users commonly notice a more aggressive shift character in program modes 4 and above, along with a generally sportier feel. That behavior is expected as part of the CSL-style calibration.
Keep your original backup.
If you decide the CSL shift logic is not for you, you can restore your original vehicle backup. You can also build a new .bin with other desired options while leaving the CSL tuning parameters out.
